SHEPHERD Alan Former head master of St Augustine's School. Leaves behind his only daughter Hilary, passed away on 30th December 2023. The funeral service will take place at Taunton Deane Crematorium at 3:20pm on Thursday 25th January.

Alan Shepherd was my headmaster from 1980 to 1985. Looking back I can clearly see what a difficult job he had and as a young boy I was often intimidated by the circumstances I found myself in. His was one of the invisible hands of wisdom which was ever present. Sometimes just a kind word or a measure of reassurance was all that was required on a given day. If I had to state his greatest achievement, it was in the creation of a diverse and talented teaching and support team who helped me believe I could achieve anything I set my mind to. No dream was too big and no issue too small. The school served as an excellent foundation for me, and for that I owe him my thanks. Blue skies to you Alan, and my best wishes to you Hilary.
