LAST weekend Taunton’s Declan Berry travelled to Weston-Super-Mare to take part in his first England Boxing ‘skills’ bout.
Declan Representing the home club, Weston Warriors ABC, put on a classy display of Olympic style boxing against the skilled Mackenzie Barlow of Grey Ranks ABC.
A skills bout is a very controlled bout of three rounds where a boxer can exhibit what he or she has learned.
The bouts are specifically for the development of young boxers in preparation for amateur boxing with no winner declared.
Both contestants gave their all for the full three skilful rounds and proved that they are ready for a step up to a full amateur bout.
Berry is certainly a name to look out for in the future as he continues his exciting journey in amateur boxing.
Guest of honour at the Somerset show was Taunton’s very own WBC International Silver Champion Pawel August.
August made several young boxers day when he was on hand to present them with their trophies and a chance to see his coveted WBC Belt.
