MAKE-UP has never been something high up on my priority list. I pretty much wear the same mascara every day, and do my eyebrows and that’s about it.

So when I was invited into Boots Taunton to have my make up done by their MAC Cosmetics make-up expert, I thought I would give it a go.

I met with the lovely Rayne Holland-Smith, who has only been working there since last July but says it is the ‘best job she’s ever had’.

Natalie Salter from the Lancome counter started my pamper by taking off my making and using various products to cleanse and hydrate my skin – it was great, I felt as though I was in a spa even though I was in the middle of boots on a very busy Friday afternoon.

Then we go onto the makeover, and Rayne was brilliant. She was so informative and I learnt so much about using the right foundation, applying eyeshadow, how and where to apply highlighter and bronzer and so much more.

“My advice would be to focus on the canvas you are working on, so don’t just focus on the makeup, focus on the primer and the skincare routine underneath,” said Rayne.

“Also seeking advice from somebody like myself who has a lot of experience definitely helps. For example undertone makes a difference and this helps with the finished look.

“If you are getting into make up for the first time then you want to focus on your base products and find the primer that suits your skin, the foundation that is best suited to you and then the best mascara too.

“Ask a lot of questions, about eye techniques, foundation – never feel like you are doing make up wrong, because there is no wrong way to do it. Make up should be fun, it should never be something you are stressed about.”
