CHILDREN at a Wellington primary school enjoyed a free Christmas feast with all the trimmings thanks to the generosity of a local butcher.

St John's C of E Primary School provided the meal to ensure all pupils receive at least one cooked Christmas lunch this year.

Pupils and staff members donned their Christmas jumpers and paper hats for the occasion on Thursday, December 8.

Tim Potter Family Butchers, located on Fore Street, made the lunch possible amid the cost-of-living crisis by providing all of the meat free of charge.

A school spokesperson said: “This is a tradition at St John’s to have a Christmas dinner and we are so grateful for the support from Tim Potter, as like many, it would have been a challenge to do this for free for the whole school.

“It is such a wonderful thing for our community to be involved with and follows our school ethos of sharing joy and hope within school and our community.

“It was a thoroughly enjoyable lunch, where children and staff ate together, enjoying Christmas crackers and festive music while eating lots of delicious food and pudding!”
