A WOMAN has been rescued from Burnham-on-Sea beach after she lost her footing and became stuck in a patch of soft mud.

She felt her foot get stuck at around 2.33pm yesterday (Tuesday, January 10) while she was walking on the soft mud bar near the Burnham Lower Lighthouse.

Her husband raised the alarm, and the Burnham Coastguard Rescue Team was deployed by the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Milford Haven.

They were assisted by the Weston Coastguard Rescue Team and Burnham Area Rescue Boat (BARB), who came racing to help her.

She was saved by the help of two coastguard mud rescue technicians, who used stretchers as a working platform to free her.

A BARB spokesperson said: "The lady was unlucky to lose her footing in a patch of mud.

"We were happy to help her alongside the Burnham and Weston Coastguard teams for a quick, successful outcome.

"Her husband did the right thing in calling 999 and asking for the Coastguard when she got into difficulty."
