STAPLEGROVE Bell ringers recently raised money for earthquake victims in Syria, Turkey.
On Tuesday, March 21 the Staplegrove bell ringers invited friends, neighbours and fellow bellringers to join them at St. John’s church to raise funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee, Turkey-Syria earthquake appeal.
The bells rang out as local people made generous donations to the appeal and enjoyed refreshments in the church.
DEC charities and their local partners are among the first responders providing urgent aid including medical care, shelter, food, water, blankets and heating.
A spokesperson said:The bells were rung continuously for over an hour, without a break. An impressive feat, as the heaviest bell in the church, made in 1608, weighs 590kg and is over a metre in diameter."
"The group raised nearly £400 and thank everyone for their support. If you are interested in finding out more about bell ringing contact Jill Hansford (Taunton Branch Ringing Master).
