THE Environment Agency Warning Officers have issued a flood alert for East Somerset rivers, and has adviced to be prepared for the following.

Their statement reads : "Flooding is possible in this area. Monitor local water levels and weather conditions. Avoid using low lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding. Start acting on your flood plan if you have one."

Environment Agency Flood Warning Officers set the river or tidal levels that have triggered this message. During industrial action this message has been automatically issued based on rising river or tidal levels. Follow @EnvAgencySW on Twitter for information for your area.

Flood alert areas are : Rivers Brue, Sheppey, Glastonbury Millstream and North and South Drains.

The Flood Alert warning means preparation in case of a flood. The Met Office advises following in case of a flood alert-

  • prepare a bag that includes medicines and insurance documents
  • check flood warnings
  • sign up for flood warnings
