Have you made any plans to enjoy and celebrate the Coronation?
I expect there will be a few people who are not royalists and not really bothered about the whole thing. And that is absolutely fine!
I am aware of lots of events happening across the whole of Somerset. Wherever you live there will be lots going on!
Street parties, official community or council-led celebrations. Large telly screens being set up in public areas, parks etc. with picnics and entertainment!
Hopefully these events will be well supported and allow people to enjoy the celebrations with others from their communities.
Can you imagine the memories of events like these will last forever. Images will be saved for future generations to enjoy too.
By definition, since the moment of the death of the Queen in September, her eldest son Charles has been King of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
But Charles III still must be crowned – not “coronated” – in Westminster Abbey. The coronation of King Charles III will be a moment in history.
I am guessing most of us will have never celebrated a coronation before. With only just over a week to wait now, we can feel the buzz of excitement.
Whether it is for the whole weekend of celebrations or just a new bank holiday. There will always be a bit of negativity about events like this.
I am choosing to zone out of all that and just enjoy the pomp and ceremonies.
Watching children waving Royal flags and smiling for having extra time with their friends and family. Probably some extra snacks, cakes and chocolate maybe. Everything in moderation and everyone deserves treats.
Take time to see if your town has any local, independent shops who are producing memorabilia?
I have bought two china mugs and coasters to celebrate the Coronation from an independent shop in the Independent Quarter of Taunton. I can’t wait to collect them.
The owners of the shop make a lot of things they sell and work with lots of local producers for their stock.
Remember that by shopping and supporting local businesses you are investing in your own local economies.
However you choose to celebrate (or not) I wish you all a peaceful and blissful long weekend.
