A THREE day festival is being planned by Green Wedmore, a not-for-profit organisation and tickets are are selling fast for the three-day.

Keynote talks on the Friday and Saturday evening in St Mary’s Church at 7pm will feature special guest speakers and a licenced bar. Tickets are £10 and under 16’s go free. 

On Friday, local naturalist and author Stephen Moss is joined by Andrew Kerr of the Sustainable Eel Group and Professor Owain Jones.

They will be discussing the importance of tidal rivers in the area. Come and hear about the history and cultural significance of eels in the area, their decline and the ambitious legacy project to help restore their numbers.

The exclusive results of e-DNA sampling will be presented for the first time, giving a true indication of current numbers in our waterways.

On Saturday, TV presenter and conservation writer Bridget Strawbridge Howard talks about the importance of bees, and TV Producer and writer Benedict Macdonald shares his thoughts on restoring Britain’s wildlife.

During the daytime on Saturday and Sunday there are a whole host of talks, walks and workshops taking place – a dusk bat safari walk, a dawn chorus walk, a foraging workshop and numerous others.

For children there are bee hotel making sessions, a colouring competition, nature art and the chance to join in the bioblitz – collect a sample pot from the village hall and get your mini-beasts identified by experts. There will be a lots of stalls and stands, a café, and pollinator plants for sale.
