AN AWARD-WINNING garden designer and Taunton Flower Show exhibitor said the show is “the highlight of our calendar”.

Julie Haylock, who runs the Sandhurst Garden Design in Yeovil, will join the flower show for the fifth time this year.

Her business won a competition at the last year’s flower show while this year, in May, won a bronze at the Chelsea Flower Show.

She said: “We will be going to Taunton for the fifth time to do garden design. We went to the flower show for the first time in 2017 and then there were the two pandemic years.

“We won an award last year so we are going back to defend that. We are very much looking forward to it.

"This year we also did the Chelsea Flower Show in May and won a bronze medal.

“We think the Taunton Flower Show is fantastic, there is something for everyone. It’s a real traditional flower show and the entertainment they put on is great too. It’s a great day out for the family.

“It’s a great opportunity to showcase my business and there is fantastic press and TV coverage.

“It is a lovely show, it’s the highlight of our calendar. It’s great fun, everyone is really supportive, and it’s got some history attached to it too.”

Julie has always been passionate about plants, heavily influenced by her mum, her beautiful garden, and her love of flower arranging.

She has designed and exhibited show gardens at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2023, BBC Gardeners' World Live 2016 and 2018, and Taunton Flower Show 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2023 Taunton Flower Show is the oldest one in the country.

A message on the show’s official website said: “Our fantastic competition marquee shows off the talents of our community and the floral marquee and designer gardens demonstrate national horticultural excellence.

“You will also find music, arena entertainment, local and national traders, and fun for all the family."

The flower show will take place on August 4 and August 5 in Vivary Park.

New for 2023 is the Artisan Village, where local designers, artists, makers, and food traders can come and showcase their handmade and locally sourced products.
