Heritage Open Days are set to return in September 2023, and there will be a number of places to visit for it across Somerset.
Running between Friday, September 8 and Sunday, September 17 the programme is returning for its 29th year.
Run in conjunction with the National Trust and the People’s Postcode Lottery it helps highlight the history and culture of many significant locations.
Many National Trust sites will be open for free on selected days during the event, and here are some you can visit in Somerset.

Tintinhull Garden
Address: Tintinhull House Gardens, 25 Farm Street, Tintinhull, Yeovil, Somerset, BA22 8PZ
Created last century around an attractive 17th-century manor house, Tintinhull Garden is described as "one of the most harmonious gardens in Britain".
From glittering pools to secluded lawns there’s plenty to enjoy at this tranquil space.
Opening times are from 11 am to 4 pm on every day during the programme, and no booking is required.
Woodspring Priory
Address: Woodspring Priory, Kewstoke, Somerset, BS22 9YU
This Augustinian house is described as having a "serene atmosphere" and is surrounded by a working farm.
Opening times are from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17.
Pre-booking would be preferred for this and can be done at the website here.
Stanton Drew Stone Circles and Cove
Address: Stanton Drew Stone Circles and Cove, Stanton Drew, Somerset, BS39 4EW
Heritage Open Days said: "Join a tour of one of the most significant stone circles in England with expert English Heritage volunteers to guide you.
"Discover the history of these stones and the recent findings that suggest the stones and cove were part of an elaborate ritual site!"
Tours are running at 10 am, 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm and 2 pm on Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10.

Avalon Archaeology
Address: Avalon Marshes Centre, Shapwick Road, Westhay, Glastonbury, Somerset, BA6 9TT
At the Avalon Marshes Centre, you'll be able to discover reconstructions of Iron Age, Roman and Saxon buildings as well as a Viking ship.
There is no booking required and it is open as part of the programme between 10 am and 4 pm on Monday, September 11.
Whirligig Festival of Outdoor Arts
Address: Italian Gardens, High Street, Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, BS23 1HU
This free two-day festival will allow you to see many international and local performers in a wide array of outdoor art experiences.
Heritage Open Days adds: "From High flying thrills with Belgium’s Collectif Malunés and a Climate Carnival to a pop-up kaleidoscopic photo installation and rowing boats on the Marine lake!"
It'll be open from 11 am to 6 pm on Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10.
