A ROAD in Somerset is set for a temporary closure due to a level crossing inspection.

Allerford Road will be closed for one day on November 13.

Somerset Council announced the decision, which is set to disrupt traffic in the Parishes of Oake and Norton Fitzwarren.

By invoking its authority under the Road Traffic Regulation Act of 1984, Section 14 (1), the council is prohibiting all vehicles from using a 99-metre portion of the road.

Starting from 288 meters south-east of the junction with Hill Road, this order will facilitate annual inspection works carried out by Network Rail.

The Chief Executive of Somerset Council, Duncan Sharkey said: "This order becomes effective on November 9, 2023, and will remain in force for eighteen months."

However, he confirmed that the works would be carried out over one night only, on November 13, running from 10pm until 6am the following morning.

The council said the closure was in place as "works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road" and "because of the likelihood of danger to the public, or of serious damage to the road, which is not attributable to such works".

Motorists are advised to check for alternative routes on https://one.network/?tm=134783567.
