HOUSING provider Stonewater is celebrating the building of homes at its Swallowcliffe development in Yeovil.

This project, supported by Homes England, will see 43 new dwellings built over two phases.

It marks a significant step towards revitalising the brownfield area where Park Senior School once stood.

The scheme, facilitated by Somerset Council, CMBO Construct Limited, and Baker Ruff Hannon, will present a mix of 19 affordable rent and 12 shared ownership homes.

The incoming two-bedroom apartments and two and three-bedroom houses have been strategically placed on The Park, providing a convenient location close to amenities and the town centre.

Matt Crucefix, Stonewater’s director of development (south & west), said: "Stonewater is dedicated to providing high-quality, affordable homes UK-wide and has developed a strong partnership with Somerset Council over the years, resulting in the delivery of many much-needed housing schemes across the county.

"We are pleased to once again be working with the local authority to transform the brownfield site where Park Senior School once stood into a thriving community.

"We have secured considerable investment from Homes England through our Strategic Partnership Programme (SPP) which has resulted in Stonewater providing hundreds of new homes, and we are committed to continuing our investment in local communities to help future-proof the UK’s housing stock."

On the council's involvement, Councillor Federica Smith Roberts said: "The start of the development is a massive achievement and a significant step towards increasing the housing stock in Somerset.

"Somerset Council is working to produce more affordable housing schemes across the county to help reduce inequality and create a fairer place to live.

"The Swallowcliffe development will provide much-needed homes in Yeovil and help to tackle the housing crisis we face in Somerset."

In comment on the project's location, Nigel Marsh, Partner at Baker Ruff Hannon, said: "This scheme demonstrates Stonewater’s willingness to unlock difficult sites and to continue development through innovative solutions in a challenging construction market.

"This is a great location with access to local amenities and facilities and will provide wonderful homes for people in the heart of the community."

Martin McManamon, Managing Director of CMBO Construct Limited, added: "CMBO is delighted to be working with Stonewater to deliver much-needed affordable housing to the Yeovil area."
