A Somerset retirement home is among a number to have planned Christmas events for the elderly, looking to spread holiday joy.

Churchill Retirement Living, which operates Riverain Lodge in Taunton, will host a series of events nationwide this December.

The main Festive Cheer event on December 15 will feature decorations, seasonal food and a wreath-making session.

Moreover, Riverain Lodge will commence the holiday season with a Christmas Open Day on December 2.

Churchill is also extending an invitation for locals to nominate a friend or relative over 60 to possibly become a guest of honour at the event.

Participants could win a Christmas hamper, a £100 M&S gift voucher and a special experience at the Lodge.

Somerset County Gazette: You also have the opportunity to nominate someone over the age of 60 to be a guest of honour

Nominations can be made online at www.churchillretirement.co.uk/festive-cheer until November 30.

Churchill’s Senior Marketing Manager Caroline Haswell said: "Our Festive Cheer events are designed to spread the magic this Christmas.

"According to Age UK, almost 1.5M older people feel lonelier at Christmas than any other time of year.

"Winners are invited to bring guests along, plus our welcoming Owners will be on hand to share the joy and make new friendships.

"It promises to be a very special occasion that captures the true spirit of a Churchill Christmas."
