In order to be eligible to vote, Somerset Council issues a reminder that you must have a form of acceptable ID.

Examples of such include a UK, European Economic Area (EEA) or Commonwealth passport; a UK or EEA drivers’ licence; and some concessionary travel passes.

"Accepted ID can also include expired documents if voters are still recognizable from the photo," as stated by Somerset Council.

Voters without such ID can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate online, or via a paper application to Somerset Council’s electoral services.

The service notes that a new digital service allows electors to apply online for a postal or proxy vote, although paper applications will still be available, thus offering voters a choice.

The deadline for Voter ID applications for the Yeovil by-election is 5pm on December 6, while for the Bridgwater and Highbridge by-elections, the deadline falls on December 8.

Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes and amendments or cancellations of proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by stipulated deadlines,

For the Yeovil by-election, the cutoff is November 29 while for the Bridgwater and Highbridge by-elections, it’s December 1.

Further details on all three by-elections are accessible through a click on relevant district links at the Electoral Services page on the Somerset Council's website.
