To mark International Volunteers' Day, Yeovil's own Phil Juggins has spoken about his roles supporting Christian Aid.
December 5 honours the millions of people who contribute towards their communities through volunteering.
As media volunteer and chairman of the Yeovil and District Christian Aid Group, Mr Juggins has served the organisation since he first came across it back in the 1970s.
Having retired in 2016, he saw an ad for the role of media volunteer to help with photos and stories in the South West.
Phil Juggins said: "I knew Christian Aid’s work was very worthy of my support and time.
“I was able to talk to the charity’s Somerset co-ordinator in early 2017 and took on the role.
"I put the stories into press releases with photos from the supporters involved.
“The role then developed to cover regional press across the whole of England."
He added that alongside learning about Christian Aid’s work, he relishes the opportunity to work with the charity's staff.
Maintaining an average of volunteering half a day a week, Mr Juggins enjoys the flexible nature of his contributions: "Working from home online fits in well with a flexible retired lifestyle."
He encourages others to volunteer, saying: "Find what suits you, it can surprise you with how your skills can be discovered and adapted."
Ian Hind, Senior Volunteering Officer said: "Without their commitment, we simply couldn't make the impact we do.
"We invite everyone to join us."
