Somerset Freemasons has donated £10,000 to the Queen Camel Community Land Trust to repair damage caused by the flash floods in May.
The funds will aid in extensive repairs to The Old School, a Grade II Listed main building in the village, purchased by the society in 2019 to serve as a community hub.
Notably, the generous donation will relocate the day care centre within the site, install new disability facilities and upgrade the heating system and kitchen area.
The flash floods left a lasting mark, still visible during a tour of The Old School, despite immediate renovation efforts.
Trusted members, Steve Millard and Rosemary Heath-Coleman recounted the devastating flood surge that made its way through the village on May 9.
Mr Millard said: "I was lucky not to have been swept away whilst making my way home during the peak of the flood."
Senior freemasons, Ben Batley and Graham Puddy presented the cheque, alongside representatives from neighbouring Bruton, Yeovil and Wincanton Lodges, who made separate contributions.
Mr Batley praised the trusts’ board for their hard work in initiating repairs swiftly, stating: "We commend their determination and wish them well in their endeavours to restore the vital services and community support provided at The Old School."
