THE fortnightly meeting of the Stoke St Mary Senior Citizen Club was held at the village hall on Tuesday August 18 at 2.30pm. The Chairman, Anne Pickard opened the meeting with a hymn and prayers and welcomed the afternoon’s entertainers Take Note with their leader and music provider, Alma. The group of 14 started off with a lively rendition of 76 Trombones, followed by old-time songs, such as Daisy, Daisy and I’ll Be Your Sweetheart.

One of the highlights of the programme was the elegant figure of the Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo, as he paraded through the hall with his cane and top hat. The choir encouraged the audience to join in with the chorus of the songs. An extract was read from Pam Ayres’ poem Friendship. The male members of the choir entertained with a Morris Men’s dance and A Policeman’s Lot is not a Happy One. It was a really enjoyable afternoon, which finished with Amazing Grace.

On Tuesday September 1, around 25 members went on a coach trip to Minehead. Some members visited the Blenheim Gardens, others looked around the shops and walked along the sea front.
