THE Ladies section at Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club have been making the most of the recent good weather during which they have played several competitions.

Last Saturday Georgia Richards the Lady Captain held a ’sign-up’ team event, when three teams played a BetterBall competition at the end of which three teams all tied on 41 points.

However after countback it was Lin Brown and Jan Hill who emerged as the winners just ahead of second placed Sue Ensell and Jane Martin-Scott.  Tea and cake was enjoyed by everyone afterwards.

Tuesday 32 ladies played a 12 hole Bowmaker that was followed by a delicious lunch.  The winners with 62 points were Georgia Richards, Marlene Ewens, Anna Rees and Sarah Gamble, two ahead of second placed Ali McGown, Jackie Pike, Teresa Dowsett and Heather Fletcher with 60. The only 2 of the round was scored by Rose Jarvis.

This week 28 ladies played an NQ Stableford during which due to planned course maintenance they battled very sandy greens and temporary greens.

Two ladies tied the top of Division One on 38 points but following countback it was  Jane Martin-Scott who edged ahead of Jane Ledsham, while Georgia Richards was thrrd with 34.

In Division Two  new member Nicola Fathers, playing her first Ladies competition scored an impressive 43 points, Marlene Ewens was second with 36. During the round four 2s were scored.

Michael Hutchings with 44 points was the winners of Sundays Minor Stableford, four ahead of Alex McGown who was second on 40.

Shaun Lang was third with 39 points and Tony Reed was fourth with 37. Two players returned with 36 points but after countback it was Deborah Goodman who was fifth just ahead of Dan Keitch.

Following the Somerset Golf Union Assessment Day at Mendip Spring last weekend several T&P Juniors have been selected for Winter coaching in the Under12 and U14 squads.
Congratulations to Jack Legg and Seb Childs on getting into the U12 Futures Squad, to Lewis Walters and George Hutchings on getting into the U14 Development Squad and
Tate Sinfield-Day on being selected again for the U14 Squad.

These squads will form the basis of the teams playing in county matches in 2024. 

On Sunday 1st October at the 2023 Presentation Day for U12’s and U14’s Tate Sinfield-Day won the U14’s Player’s Player of the year award and Finley Pyke won the U14’s Coach’s Player of the year award.
