TAUNTON Vivary Bowls Club Men’s A team began their defence of their title in the West Somerset Bowls League competition with an away win on Thursday.
They won 63 v 37, at Burnham on Sea, winning on all rinks for the full 12 points.
The B team were only slightly less successful, away at Bridgwater, drawing on one rink to drop one point in a 53 v 42 victory, for 11 points.
At home, the C team went down by 42 v 65 against Eastover A, but picked up 2 points for a win on one rink.
On Saturday in the County League, for the second week running, the B team lost overall by 1 shot.
They picked up 4 points though, for two winning rinks in an overall 61 v 60 loss away at Watchet B.
Alec Berry won 20 v 15, and Dick Bridgeman won 26 v 23, but Dennis Buckingham’s rink went down by 14 v 23.
The C team also lost at home to league leaders North Petherton B, by 40 v 76, picking up 2 points for one winning rink.
