THE Seniors Section at Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club have been playing in the Philip Cook Winter League and earlier this week on a bitterly cold Monday Round 7 took place.

With only three rounds remaining the leading players are starting to draw clear of the chasing pack, and only time will tell if anyone can make a late run and sneak onto the leaderboard from behind.

The winner in Round 7 was Mark Hexton whose 42 points on the slightly shortened course was a great performance in the freezing cold conditions. Mike Crump  with 41points and Bill Maginn with 40 were hot on his heels, while another five players all returned to the warm and welcoming clubhouse with 39.

The current league leader and the reigning Philip Cook Winter League Champion is Peter Fox who extended his lead by improving his five scores and opening up a 12 point gap over Mike Ellingford who moved up to second place after another good round.

Round 8 of the competition will be taking place on Monday 22nd January.

Following the postponement of the Duvall Cup in December the competition will now be taking place on Monday 29th January. Teams for the 4 Ball Texas Scramble should book their tee-times on the start sheet as normal.

Looking ahead to hopefully sunnier times T&P PGA professional Jason Avery has arranged a golfing trip to the fantastic St Mellion Golf Resort in Cornwall on Friday 21st June and Saturday 22nd June.

The trip includes a round of golf on the Kernow Course on Friday afternoon followed by an overnight stay with dinner bed and breakfast and then on Saturday morning a round on the Niklaus course.

The price of the trip is £235 per person based on two people sharing (single rooms are available at additional cost and includes a welcoming gift and all prizes for both days.

The format will be pairs Betterball Stableford and the trip is open to all T&P members.

Numbers are limited so anybody who is interested in booking a place should make contact with Jason Avery as soon as possible by calling into the pro shop at T&P or ringing him on 01823 421790.
